In 1960 four guys from Van Tech ( Lynwood Hutton, Paul Manders, Jim Wausslief and Chuck Cliff ) formed a band called the Citations. The band played the basic rock and roll of the day at community centres and school sock hops.

Early in 1962 the band broke up over a difference of opinion as to what kind of music they should be playing rock and roll versus rhythm and blues.

Shortly thereafter Cliff received a call from a band called the Motions which was also a band made up of tech people (Bill Hallett,Bill Wheeler, Ron Johnson and Doug Cuthbert).

Cliff joined the band with a promise from the guys that they would change their format to rhythm and blues.Shortly thereafter former tech grads Larry Volen, Bill Keyes and vocalist Sy Risby were added and the rest is history.

The band continues to play with many of the originals still part of the band.

The band has grown to Canada’s largest ever self contained 19 piece rhythm and blues show.

The vocal lineup reads like the anthology of Vancouver rhythm and blues with Harry Walker formerly of the hi-fives, Sy Risby an original, Kentish Steele formerly of the Shantelles Miss Suzanne an original,Hans Staymer formerly of the R&b Allstars, Lovena Fox star of the musical Evita, Billy Dixon an original from 1964 and the Soul Inspirations background singers Ronny Jordan and Katherine Cliff and Candice Gibson both daughters of band leader Chuck Cliff and female vocalist Miss Suzanne. The band has played many totally sold out venues of up to 30,000 people.

Musical talent is throughout Tech this year. Bob Olson, Ken Stinson, Barry Sharbo and Wayne Allen have arranged a group known as the "Quadra Tones". These boys have played for the noon hour dances and concerts hare at the school. They also play for weddings, dances and banquets. Ken plays the clarinet, sax and bass, Bob plays the guitar or sax, Barry plays the drums and Wayne plays piano for the group. These musical fellas are versatile in the type of music they like. They play rock'n roll, good jazz and old tunes.
